Nostalgic Tribute to the 2023 Dodge Challenger R/T Shakedown Widebody

Dodge announces the first of seven special-edition Last Call models, a nostalgic tribute to muscle car glory.

The unveiling of the iconic Dodge Challenger Shakedown marks the start of a send-off series, aptly named Last Call. The send-off of limited special-edition Challengers that pay homage to Dodge's legendary muscle car heritage starts with the Dodge Challenger Shakedown from the 2016 SEMA show and the 1971 Challenger. The Shakedown serves as the opening act, promising an exhilarating blend of power, nostalgia, and modern performance.

2023 Dodge Challenger

As stated in the 2016 SEMS press release, The merging of old-school muscle with the 21st century is quickly evident on the 'Bitchin' Black' exterior, hung on a unique hand-built, one-off frame with a removable body. The Dodge Shakedown Challenger rolls on concept SRT Hellcat Slingshot-designed 19-inch by 9 1/2-inch front and 20-inch by 9 1/2-inch rear wheels, providing a 'coiled' stance. A heritage-inspired 1971 Shaker hood scoop is added with help from select parts from the Mopar brand's modern-day Shaker hood kit, feeding fresh air to the HEMI® powerplant.

The Mopar customized vehicle speaks to our ability to assist owners in creating a ride that fits the blueprint of their individual lifestyles. Our SEMA lineup highlights the parts and accessories we have available to bring vintage Mopar vehicles roaring to life, fuel family fun for all.
Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA—Global

2023 Dodge Challenger

For my press loan, I was fortunate enough to drive for the final time the Challenger Shakedown R/T Scat Pack Widebody in Pitch Black. I scheduled my Sunday to drive it around North Texas looking for the perfect spot for its final pictures. I was gone most of the afternoon enjoying the rumble of the thunder out the tailpipes. The Challenger Shakedown's design is a stunning tribute to the golden era of muscle cars, capturing the essence of raw power and timeless style that defined an entire generation. With a design that's both unmistakably retro and refreshingly modern, this special edition model boasts classic cues from the original Challenger while incorporating contemporary aerodynamics and styling elements.

2023 Dodge Challenger

From the bold front grille to the muscular wheel arches and flared fenders, the Shakedown radiates a sense of aggressiveness that's true to the muscle car ethos. But it's the subtle details that make the biggest impact—the retro Shaker hood scoop, the throwback stripes, and the nostalgic badging all hearken back to a time when horsepower was king. In true Dodge brothers' spirit, I believe the Dodge brand, as a pure performance brand, will never give up the arms race for American Muscle, but it will look and sound a little different. You just have to believe.

Dodge Speed Week may be over, but our brand is far from finished in shaking up the muscle car world. We're following up Speed Week reveals of the future of electrified muscle in the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept and our first electrified vehicle in the 2023 Dodge Hornet R/T by announcing six special, commemorative-edition models in a little over a month.
