Review: 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Adds New XRT Trim to Lineup

The rugged motif features a tougher-looking exterior designed specifically for the outdoor-enthusiast lifestyle.

After extensive product enhancements were introduced last year with great success, the current 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe carry-over model continues to experience strong sales growth and a collection of noteworthy awards. Not only is the compact SUV a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+, but the Hyundai Santa Fe was named a Best New Car of 2021 from Autotrader and also received a 2021 Best Buy Award from Kelley Blue book's KBB.com, two years in a row.

A brand-new addition to the 2022 Santa Fe lineup debuting this year, however, is the rugged XRT appearance trim which is sure to appeal to buyers who desire a tougher-looking differentiation to the exterior. Featuring exclusive content designed to convey an outdoor-enthusiast lifestyle, the Santa Fe XRT builds on the SEL Convenience feature set, and includes a blackout exterior color motif and exclusive exterior touches that convey a distinct Santa Fe demeanor.

The new exterior styling attributes, which are distinct from standard Santa Fe models, include darkened elements and components such as:

  • XRT black lower fascia trim, front and rear
  • XRT dark silver skid plate styling elements
  • XRT lower door side finishers
  • XRT 18" dark-tone alloy wheels
  • XRT dark finish matte-black grille
  • XRT black side mirror covers
  • XRT side steps
  • Body color door handles
  • Black roof side rails and cross rails

As Hyundai's best-selling SUV in the brand's 36-year history in America, the Santa Fe offers a convenient family-oriented interior, practical cutting-edge technologies, advanced safety systems, and uniquely bold exterior styling.

As one of the leading automakers in safety designations by IIHS, this achievement represents a significant performance by our engineering and safety teams and validates the laser-like focus that we have for the safety of our customers and all road users.

Hyundai's current SUV products each hold a TSP or TSP+ rating designation when equipped with specific headlights and for the 2022 Santa Fe, built after July 2021. Additionally, of the eight Hyundai products awarded thus far for 2022, five include eco-friendly powertrain options. Parent company, Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia and Genesis), leads the industry with the most awards in each category when equipped with optional front crash protection and specific headlights—TOP SAFETY PICK+ and 10 TOP SAFETY PICK awards for a total of 21.

Safety is paramount at Hyundai, as evidenced by every vehicle in our SUV lineup earning an IIHS Top Safety or Top Safety Pick+ designation. Through R&D and HMMA collaborative hard work we were able to improve the Santa Fe's LED-headlamp performance to meet the stringent testing demands by IIHS. We are extremely proud of the 2022 Santa Fe's recent TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating and continuing Hyundai's industry leadership in IIHS awards.
